I'm leaving for Cebu tomorrow morning and I'm really excited to meet Angela, Butch and the rest of the PCN members. Goyo lent me his bike bag so I can bring my bike along the trip. The members there are so hospitable that they even called up the Cebu Midtown Hotel to check if it's OK to bring a bike in the room. Now that's what I call networking! To be quite honest, I'm actually more excited with the biking part than the work part.

Officially, I'll be checking out our channel there. I'll be bringing some new tapes to provide fresh content for the channel. I'm sure the first batch of videos are all faded with the daily 20-hour showing. I will be consulting with the SkyCable people for feedback from the locals and maybe apply some of the things we're already doing in Manila. I'm also tasked to take pictures of the city's different areas for our Urban Jungle Adventure Race.

So see you in Cebu.

Surprisingly, for a Monday, today was quite refreshing. Instead of the usual pants and polo to start the week, I wore shorts, a sportshirt, socks and rubber shoes. No need to drive all the way to the office. I just walked a good five minutes to Red Balloon Production in Prince David along Katipunan for a shoot. This made me think of having my own business near my home. Perhaps sometime soon.

I biked ten kilometers today. To any serious biker's standards that is just a warm up. It's different for me. In that short span of time, I realized how much I missed pedaling in the old University. I should do more of this.

Talking about bikes, Specialized released an new suspension design and I think it's going to be hot. Dubbed The Epic, the new design claims to have found the Holy Grail of suspension - active suspension with zero loss in pedal input. Will they let go of the popular four-bar linkage design by Horst Leitner is a question left unanswered. Is this going to be another design that Giant, Intense, and other mid-sized bike companies will license is another. How will this fare with the Maverick suspension design by Rock Shox founder, Paul Turner?

I've seen the new Crank Brothers Egg Beater pedals and I have to say that it's probably the most minimalistic pedal design I've ever seen. Though considerably cheaper than Time's ATAC, P4,800 is still high price to pay for a mountain bike pedal. But if what they say is true, that these are the ultimate revelation in terms of clipless pedals, then I guess it's worth it. Just make sure that you'll use it in the trail and not just for posing in Quezon Memorial Circle on Sundays.

Fete de la Musique
The French are putting up a big party with the country's biggest bands and musicians tonight so get your asses to El Pueblo in Ortigas Center. The gates open at 8:00 p.m., but I suggest you go there earlier to get great seats. I promise no Salbakuta this time. No Amir of Rap neither.

No Mojo for Mojofly?
Sorry Mojofly fans but Kitchie didn't make it to last night's chat. It was Friday and her classes from that school in Taft ended at 6:00 p.m. She hitched a ride with a friend and they had to pass by Makati to pick something up. As for the show, no need to worry because the boys did great. If you really want to see Mojofly in action, then see you later at the Fete!

A Barbie Girl in a Barbie World
If you're a big Barbie's Cradle fan, then I've got a treat for you. Tune in tonight to SkyCable channel 48 at 7:00 p.m. Barbie's Cradle is the guest for PinoyCentral TV's celebrity chat. Unlike other celebrity chats, you don't need a pc for this one; only your cellphone. Other upcoming guests include Mojofly on Friday (21 June 2002) and Imago next week (27 June 2002), all at 7:00 p.m.

It's another Thursday Inuman Session tonight in the office and, of course, everyone's invited to join. Just bring your own share of food and booze and we'll have a great time. Also, it would be a plus if you know how to play Mah Jong. You can login to Yahoo Games and watch how it's done.

MESALA - the power is in your hands.
Isang gabi ng kasalanan. Sampung taong bayaran.

It's a new fad in the office. All you have to do is register to be a member and you can loan money and pay it through salary deduction. According to my officemates, they wouldn't ask you what will you do with the cash. All they're interested is on the interest-free payment, which can be as long as a 5-year term. So now we can go to Lexus and Classmates and pay it monthly through our salary!

Talking about fad, I've initiated the Mahjong fever in the office. Thanks to the great Rumelo, who bought me a kiddie mahjong set in Hong Kong, we can now have endless hours of fun after work. So now there's beer and liquor, fooseball, and mahjong. Logically, G.R.O.'s are next in line.

Every time I go to the office, I'm intrigued by this establishment along Kamias:

Discovery Crusade of the Philippines, Inc.
The On-Time Warrior Against Poverty
Prime Mover of the 1935 Commonwealth Republic Act Part 2

I have no idea what they do, but I have images of old war veterans putting on armor in their fight against poverty. Sheesh! It reminded me of the sleezy people (who still believe in the Yamashita gold) my mother used to meet for her fundings. I wonder what happened to those clowns.

If you have the time, pass by Kamias going towards Edsa. The small bungalow-type clubhouse is on your right around 50 meters after crossing the Kalayaan Avenue intersection. I was looking for a website address that I can log in to, but I don't think they embrace technology that well.

Salamat nama't bakasyon ngayon.

On leave ako sa Huwebes. Sa wakas ay madadala ko na rin si Chai sa Casa para sa kanyang 45T-kilometer preventive maintenance. Gastos na naman, as usual.

After seeing A Walk to Remember, I'm now in love with Mandy Moore.

Saturday. I don't have to say anything. Everyone knows what I'm talking about. It's just that lately it seems that more and more I'm looking forward to the weekend. I think I'd give myself a few days off just to freshen and re-create. Now I'm looking forward to this coming Wednesday's national holiday.

Although we're starting to earn, we're still doing some cost-cutting measures in the company. And so talking about breaks, we're doing our own summer getaway with some of the office people. It seems strange because it's already the wet season in this part of the world. The first plan was to go to San Juan, Batangas, but there are talks of going to Bicol. I'll keep you posted on that one.

I was quite surprised from the text mesage I received from my kumare - she wanted me to go out on a blind date with her officemate. What made it sound really sleezy were the details: 5' 7", U.P. graduate, really sexy. Geez! For a moment there I thought it was the online escort service!

Is it official? Am I now in this part of life where you have to do blind dates and stuff?! Now I know about societal pressures but this is ridiculous! Whenever I see my mom she always asks when will I get married. Now this time it's my kumare doing the act subconsciously. So I guess what they taught me at social science is true - if you cannot do it yourself, the structure will help you to it.

I am tipsy. I love this feeling. Somehow it masks everything real. It seems that I am in another world where everything's OK. I wish I could stay here. This is as close to Utopia as one can get. But then I am still sober enough to realize that I'll wake up tomorrow to the harshness of reality with a big headache.

Better late than sorry
After months of bugging sir Jun for it, I finally have my own business card. Now all I have to figure out now is to whom I should give this to since most of the people that I will be working with already have my contact information. Need my card?

Rumelism
I've added a section in my blog for this really interesting friend of mine named Rumelo. He comes up with all these wacky sayings and quotable quotes that leaves us speechless. Just to demonstrate, his current Rumelism is uttered in full volume in the middle of a restaurant's veranda in Libis as we were drinking our San Mig Light. In weeks to come, I plan to write down some classic lines from the great master himself. Hope you'll enjoy it as much as we did.

Saturday, June 01, 2002

Today is Saturday. I just woke up a few minutes ago and read the new blogs of my friends.

My brother is watching the NBA wearing his Kobe Bryant jersey and no pants on. For some, this might sound really crazy but I guess things are better now with him. When he was a kid in Batangas, I remember him kneeling in front of the TV praying the rosary for the Anejo Rhum 65 basketball team. Talk about putting all your faith in God. I guess he's more matured now. And he should be. He's now an incoming sophomore at the Ateneo Law School in Rockwell. Now I realize I don't want him to be my lawyer. I don't want to see him fight for me in a courtroom holding a rosary and not wearing any pants.

It was Ish's last day yesterday. I was supposed to talk to her about her work, but she already left. And so ends my saga with her.

Looking ahead, I'm getting two new OJT's this coming semester and I'm hoping they're not from Xavier University in Naga. Those kids travelled all the way to Manila just to bum around. They certainly have no initiative and have problems dealing with authority. I was so disappointed that I didn't even think twice when I flunked the one assigned to me.

My mom's getting her myoma operated on this Monday. It's a simple procedure, but we're just a bit worried because she's diabetic. Her doctors said that they managed to stabilize her sugar level. I can sense her fear from her voice over the phone. My sister's already there to take care of her. I told my mom everything's going to be fine.

No more Mark now. From three, we now have one Jenny left. It's sad to see people leave especially now when we're starting to taste the fruits of our labor. I can understand the reasons why the there was an Exodus last year. Somehow it's not that easy to understand now. And even though you wish these people luck in their new jobs, I can't help but wish they'll come back.
