The OJT Killer Lives!
Still waiting for good old Teacher Fiesta to come to her senses and start blogging! Hello Fiesta! Hint hint!

I've got three new OJT's for this summer. Bwahahahaha! (Cue thunder and lightning) Two are from UP Los Baņos and one is from FEU. So far so good. Seems I won't have flunk anyone this OJT season.

THERMODYNAMICS OF HELL
Got this from the company bulletin board

The following is an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid-term. The answer by one student was so "profound" that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well.

Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant. One student, however, wrote the following:

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving.

As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell.

With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:

1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.

2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

So which is it? If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, "it will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you," and take into account the fact that I still have not succeeded in having an affair with her, then number 2 above cannot be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and will not freeze over.

THIS STUDENT RECEIVED THE ONLY "A"

I felt sad when Berni emailed me the maintenance page for my service. This week is her last week with this company. Next week, she'll be looking sharp as she tackles the urban jungle known as Makati City.

She's one of the last of her kind. What started out as a batch of fresh grads ready to face the real world head on is now a dying breed. It's a thankless work out of the limelight, and most of those who left moved on with their lives. Some still stayed in the industry, while others tackled different challenges in the fields of teaching, marine biology, statistics and production.

It's so masa na!
Repent! Repent! The world is coming to an end! For there is now ICE MONSTER in the Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall! Yes, in the jologs central of the east. Pretty soon, there will be ukay-ukay stalls in the Powerplant Mall and, heaven forbid, Jollibee at The Podium!

Naaaliw ako whenever my wife-to-be talks about biking. I love it when we talk about the peloton and the roles of domestiques and how excited she gets with the upcoming Tour. She even joined the cycling egroup I made! Cool!

She doesn't ride a bike well. I still have to be by her side as she tries to make a turn using the errand BMX bike at home. But maybe by a divine intervention of sorts and a little kulit from her friends, Mads and Bunny, it won't be long before we climb Maarat side by side.

Hehehehehehe!

After giving a chance to Armstrong in 1998, who then has just recovered from cancer, the United States Postal Service announced that they'll cease sponsorship at the end of the 2004 season. Seems weird for a company not to renew their sponsorship contract when they have the five-time Tour de France Champion leading the team. For more info, click here to read Velonews' article.

Greetings to my friend Rumel, who is now currently staying in Japan working his ass off and getting filthy rich in the process. A self-confessed blog addict, he said in his email that he checks for updates every hour. Wazzup Melopeds! Thank God you're finally in Friendster! Now what you have to do is to fill up the other stuff there and post a picture!

On biking, I'd like to congratulate the Firefly Brigade for a good Tour of the Fireflies this year. Maybe next year you can move it back to the Marikina-QC area. A lot of people, myself included, find this year's route not exactly exciting.

Also, the Tour Pilipinas is also underway. For updates, you can tune in to Studio 23 or login to their official website at http://www.tourpilipinas.com. In terms of television coverage, we still have a lot to learn to make it more exciting. But I'd take a less-than-spectacular coverage than no-coverage at all. Hey Sev Sarmenta! You worked with renowned cycling commentator Phil Ligget during the past tours, right? You can do better than that! C'mon!

Lance Armstrong won today's criterium and time trial stages, earning him the yellow jersey in this year's Tour of Georgia in the U.S. Two other members of his US Postal Cycling Team moved up and are also in the top ten of the general classification. They are Viatchezlav Ekimov and George Hincapie. Cool! If Lance gives his 100%, he might be able to pull this off. But I'm thinking he'll be giving this to his teammate if ever one climbs up in the placings as he did with Floyd Landis.

Happy 30th (daw) Birthday to my boss. Heard you have a great gift this year ah! Congratulations! Painom ka naman! ;)

Blog Friends
I've been bloghopping and in Van's (dead-but-hopefully-soon-to-be-revived) site, I saw a link going to Leyds' old blog, which in turn has a link to her last blog before she left the world of blogging. I wonder how she is. It's been ages since we last chatted on instant messenger. I hope she's doing well.

I also discovered Joelle's blog while bloghopping. Cool!

On friends, I've two new links on my blog: Emer's Room with a Bangus and Leeds George's D' Fukc. Check 'em out!

Chai's fixed na. I was supposed to bring her to the Rapid shop along Timog Avenue to try out their service, but when I got there, there were only two mechanics and the shop was so dark and unclean. No way am I having my car fixed here, I said to myself. So I ended up in good old Zafra motors along Tomas Morato. Their mechanics are courteous and accomodating, and their shop is well-lighted and relatively clean.

As for the damage, not only did I have to buy a new tire to replace the one that blew up on the impact, I also had to replace her front shocks because the old one got bent. All in all amounting to almost P10,000.

The good news is my dad said he'll be paying for it. Whew! That was a relief!

I'm having the vacation hangover and I can't believe it's Monday so soon! The five-day holy week break is over, but I still want to stay in bed and be lazy the whole day.

My body doesn't hurt that much any more from the Good Friday Visita Iglesia ride in Batangas. That was probably the worst Visita Iglesia I did. My fitness level was nowhere near adequate that I had to hang on to Jap's scooter in the difficult Padre Garcia to Mount Carmel, Lipa stretch. And going to San Vicente Ferrer from the Lipa Cathedral, I was attacking the San Fernando Air Base "incline" at less than 15 kilometer an hour. My legs were starting to have cramps and my butt hurt from hours of sitting on the bike saddle.

I got back my Cannondale SuperV from Cholo because he can only pay half of it. What an asshole. Anyway, I'm selling it again. If there's anyone interested in buying let me know. I'll be posting pictures in this site soon.

Mark's site is down, so check out Emer's new blog, Room With A Bangus, and his girl's blog as well.

I didn't go on leave today, but almost everyone else did. Everyone in the office is in Holy Week vacation mode.

I'm thinking of prepping up the Philippine Cycling Network e-group site. If there's a kind soul who's willing to lend a hand on a project for free (with some pakain treats), please let me know.

I was chatting with Mark from PCN this afternoon. I met him at the Weddings@Work website with his fiancee, Chrissie. Never did I realize that he was a PCN member too until Chrissie sent a message in Charo's blog! Coolness!

I'll be going to Batangas for the annual Batangas Mountain Bikers Visita Iglesia on bike this Good Friday, 9 April 2004.

The ride will take us to the different churches in the province. The route is as follows: St. Mary Euphrasia Church, Batangas City --> San Jose Church --> Ibaan Church --> Rosario Church --> Padre Garcia Church --> Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Lipa City --> Lipa Cathedral --> San Vicente de Ferrer Church --> Cuenca Church --> Alitagtag Church --> Sta. Teresita Church --> Bauan Church --> Sta. Rita Church --> Our Lady of the Immaculate Concepcion, Batangas City.

The whole trip is around 90 kilometers. Assembly is at the Laurel Park, Kapitolyo, Batangas City at 6:00 in the morning and leaves at 7:00 AM. This is for free, so it's OK to bring cycling buddies.

If interested, let me know via my comment box.

Planning

Last Friday wasn't our ordinary office day. It was our Tagaytay planning session. We didn't do service description grids (and saved a lot of paper in the process).

It was a welcome break from dealing with really annoying cry babies, who, despite you reasoning to them that the three-person tech team is drowning with projects, would go straight to your superiors and insist on launching their service on March 31. And when you did commit to that date, it ended up that it was them who can't deliver to their own set deadline.

(Sorry. I had to let that one out. Hehehehe!)

Anyway, I picked up moby, Mira and Grace in the Pantoja bakery at around ten minutes to eight and drove straight to Shell Magallanes. Surprisingly, the traffic was really light. We didn't expect to make it to Magallanes in 35 minutes!

While waiting, Moby and I shared a big Cinnamon Roll from Cinnabon. What a sugar rush!

We left Shell for Enchanted Kingdom hoping that we can do our planning and R&R there, but the park opens at 2:00 pm. So we went back to the original plan and headed for Tagaytay.

The whole trip was really for pigging out.

We first went to Leslie's to have some Bulalo, Crispy Pata, Tawilis and Tuna Belly for lunch. Siyempre I can only eat fish lang. (The picture on the left was taken from there.)

Bossing was craving for halo-halo for dessert, so we ended up at the cafe of the beautifully renovated Taal Vista Hotel. They cleaned up well! Gone are the droves of tourists in jeepneys that turn this area into a market place. If you've got time, I advise you to check it out. (The picture on the right is us planning while having dessert at the Taal Vista.)

After that we went to Tina's place for some more planning and sheep-watching before we headed to Manila.

Traffic was terrible! It took us three and a half hours to get home. Moby was neutralized with the car music, which was a strage mix of Parokya ni Edgar, Hotdogs, Referendum, Fat Boy Slim, Bosa Nova and Jim Chappel.

It's our anniversary!
Today, Charo and I are celebrating our anniversary! Ang bilis 'no? It's been a year since we went to the church (St. Peter, I think) at the corner of Mother Ignacia and Timog Avenues, where she gave me the blue rosary she bought from the Manila Cathedral during our photography trip to Intramuros, and finally said "yes" to me. It's been a year since that faithful night at Aresi, when we announced to everyone in the office that finally we're officially together.

To those who were there and witnessed how it started, from high-waist jeans and lunch outs to the amazing Baguio trip and the Aresi drinking spree, I hope you all take part as we take the next step next year.

Cheers! :)
