Ending the year
I watched Dekada '70 and Mano Po yesterday at the Powerplant Cinemas in Rockwell. My reaction on Mano Po getting best picture: Paano nanalo 'yan? Something's rotten in the state of Denmark. Forgive me for saying this pero mukhang na-five million yata.
Went for a driving adventure with her again last night. We just drove around the metro and we just talked and talked. We shared twin popsies at Select in Katipunan before we headed to the Loyola House of Studies to watch the Marikina fireworks display. Then we drove around - Makati, Manila and Alabang. I was actually tempted to take her to Tagaytay to enjoy the breeze but it was already late. Brought her home at around two in the morning, and we wished each other a happy new year before we parted ways.
I'll be having lunch with the group expansion (translation: add Tinine, Vina and Sanya). It's a traditional yearender and this time it's going to be at the Outback Steakhouse in Libis.
What a way to end the year. And I can't wait for 2003.
Happy New Year, everyone!

Not your ordinary mail
I found it really weird how aggressive schools are these days. Just this morning I received two letters from Pedia House and Kostka School inviting me to enrol my child in their institution. Hmmm. Is there something missing here? I take it these people assumed that people my age must have kids by now. Sheesh.
Wait a minute! Maybe I can refer them to Mark and Petite! Hehehehe!

Quotable Quotes
(Salamat kay Olive)
Bago maluto ang handa
We're not asking for the world; we're just asking for 5 pesos out of 300.
—Morny and Jovan to Myles, who refuses to text back
Stuff it while it's hot.
—Myles while stuffing peppers
Myles: Too bad I can't sleep over tonight. I can't get to kiss Joyce.
Olive: What's stuffing you?
Jojo: Bloodshot na ba mata ko?
Morny: Hindi. Lumuluha ka na ng dugo. Charing!
Jojo's on a roll tonight
—Jojo
Maybe you just like hairy birds.
—Jojo to Myles
Jojo opening Myles' gift to him: `Pag `ito si Tweety, papatayin kita!
Myles: Ohmygod! (sabay tawa)
Sabi ni Jojo sa lahat: If you come to my house, you have to wipe it up.
Pork to pork.
—Jojo while cooking his pinikpikan
Sa maagang pag-uwi ni Myles
Myles, huwag ka muna umuwi. He (Jojo) comes once a year.
(Matapos nun, napunta ang usapan sa pagbati. Syempre.)
Gifts
Mga dedication ni Jovan
(For Olive) Olive...Um, ewan. Hehehe.
Nagpropose sya sa Empire State.
Kawawa talaga si del Valle. Loser!
Rumel to Morny tungkol sa pouring of Bailey's: Ba't magaling ka?
Rumel to Jojo: Jo, paabut ng beer...
Jojo: Oo, abot ko...
Bastusan na!
Jojo giving advice to Myles about keeping her boyfriend happy:
Kung gusto mo in the ass para virgin ka pa rin in front.
May balak ang mga boys na kumuha ng babae
Morny: Si Jojo ang totoro diyan—ibababoy pala.
Morny: `Mel, kuha tayo ng babae! Olive, okay lang ba?
Olive (feeling puta): Teka, magkano ba?

We had dinner at World Topps in Katipunan after hanging out in her office late this afternoon. I ordered spicy salpicao and I got her Korean seafood.
She gave me a box of my favorite Pogi waffles (ang waffle ng mga pogi). The dedication read something like this:
To Hagrid,
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
From Hermione
I drove her home again. Commuting on the 23rd of December in Ortigas is a nightmare. What's new is she let me in her house. Nothing serious, really. I just helped her bring her gifts upstairs.
On the phone when I got home, she was teasing me of Hermione saying "I love you" to Hagrid in her dedication. I just shrugged it all off and pretended I didn't hear a thing. Can't be too assuming in this day and age.
It's the 24th. Another Christmas down the drain.

I really enjoy taking her home. I don't know why exactly. Probably knowing that she got home in one piece is enough for me. It's a habit of mine. And despite the things my friends tell me, it's one thing I still can't fully flush out of the system. I'm a spoiler.
She has a party last night in Makati. It's just a small group of five people and she was actualy quite flattered to be invited. I remembered she told me once how frustrated she gets with these things -- that as much as she would like to stay till the wee hours of the morning, she always has to worry of how she'd go back home. Makati to Marikina isn't really a popular route of taxi drivers.
That was what I texted her.
Maybe for a change I wanted her to enjoy herself -- that just for that night she's not the unofficial assistant of Ros, the ate of her family and the girlfriend of Raymund.
I gave her her Christmas gift when we got to her home. It's a book I bought a National -- The Joy Luck Club. It is too cliche, I know. But I enjoyed the movie and I think that's the message I want to give her this season.
Gusto ko lang i-share.

Day one of planning is over and I could say that there are good improvements with the boss. I guess the one-on-one with everyone and the inuman sessions paid off.
There was a discussion in the session this afternoon if there is really a gap between mancom and the employees. I said yes. But I pointed out that compared to other companies, we are lucky because we get to air out whatever we want to tell our bosses.
So is this gap good or bad? It depends on one's school of thought. Some would say that there shouldn't be a gap at all while others would say otherwise. I'd go for something in-between.
What do you guys think?

Just when I was counting on their ATM service for my funding needs, you can bet that Equitable-PCI is down. Now that's third-world banking!

Congratulations to Petite and Mark! Enjoy the ride! Send my regards to the host! Hehehehe! Peace!
The last time I was there was first year college. Now called Ken Afford, this restaurant in Katipunan brings back old memories of my days in high school when I was just a bedspacer at the third floor of that building. I miss Coney Island's Eskino Rolls.
Had a midnight snack with Cheche and Maydel last night at Dimsum and Dumplings. I got myself some delicious diced ube hopia while the girls ordered chicken mami and spicy crab siomai.

Guess what? We don't have a budget for our Christmas party so we have to chip in to buy booze. Just when you thought it would be different this time around, the good old corporate wand casts it spell. Some party this turned out to be.

Here's something retro -- they served us Zagu Pearl Shakes here in event! Now this is one drink I haven't tried for a long time. I'm still craving for Yellow Cab Pizza and Pepsi Blue. Yummy.
9:59 PM
Today's event has got to be the most boring chat event I have ever done. To be quite honest I don't see why people would spend their P2.50 to see their messages here, but they're not asking for my opinion anyway.

I was hoping we'd all be winding down after the anniversary party, but it's a Sunday and I'm here in the office for another event. I was hoping I could have this time to shop for gifts for my friends and maybe watch a movie or two. Oh well. Such is life.
I haven't been blogging much lately. When I got back from Monday's break, I was told I had to attend a two-day seminar on Work-Life Program. Great. Instead of making up for the anniversary week's hectic schedule, they had to book me for this program, which basically says that there should be a balance between your work and career. I don't know about you, but I don't think I need a seminar to figure that one out.
No more Garlic Rose in Malate. We were supposed to have dinner there last Thursday. I guess I haven't been around much lately, so we ended up at this expensive excuse for French cuisine -- The Blue Frog. Bummer. Good thing the drive around Manila made up for it. We went around Divisoria, Intramuros and the CCP complex. Wish I could do more of these adventures.
