Today's the last day of February. It'll be March tomorrow. That means a lot of things for many people.
For the corporate world, it means one thing - the last month to catch up for the first quarter targets. And with the look of things, it's not going to be a pretty picture.
For my siblings, February means a year older. Kristine just turned 25 and Carlo 23. Now I'm feeling old.
The main point of this blog is actually her turning 27 this month, but I don't know if I should be there in the celebration. I'm thinking of taking Mira's offer and go to an out-of-town vacation on the 14th and be back the following Monday. Maybe I should just send her a bouquet of white roses instead.

It was hard for me to let go so she took it upon herself to make it easier by cutting it. No more text messages. Not that much replies. No more phone calls. What could've been is now a never was.
It's colder now that I have less hair on my head, but its growing.

Sandals, Local Optimization, and Chicken Shit
Here's Emer's reaction to the latest news:
There's trouble in my old company. People are no longer allowed to wear sandals to work. I used to be a Mojos-wearing junior programmer in said company, so I was saddened by this development. It's like this tangible marker that sticks out from the landscape and reads: "Here marks the death of your culture, sandals not allowed beyond this point, violators will be sanctioned in accordance to The Revised Guidelines on Office Groupthink".

He strikes again
He sent my subordinate home because the poor guy was wearing "slippers". Now where the heck do these assholes get their logic?! Correct me if I'm wrong but we didn't hire people here because they have nice feet. The last time I checked it's not down there but what's up there that matters.

Fear Factor
Would you eat this for P380?
It's a mixture of sebo from Mira's garlic mushrooms, binagoongang baboy (leftovers from Karen's lunch), nachos, beer, cigarette ash, wine, Gilbey's Gin Pomelo and Shaker's Strawberry Mudslider.
Gerry took the dare and finished it.

Organizational Assembly for Losers
Happy Hearts Day, everyone!
Again if you've got nothing planned for tonight, you're invited to join us in the office for some drinking and kwentuhan sessions. Just bring something na lang, like those cheesy CD's that you're secretly listening to.
p.s. If G.A. stands for General Assembly, then Organizational Assembly can stand for OrgAsm. Cool. Just my repressed mind thinking.
Lesson 214
There are two bosses and each one has a newbie under his wing. They gave these greenhorns a project to work on to hone their skills. Unfortunately, the project didn't go as smoothly as planned. It fucked up, so to speak.
The first boss washed his hands and claims that he has nothing to do with it because it is not his project. On the other hand, the second boss took full responsibility for the actions of his subordinate.
Command Responsibilty. This is our lesson for today.
Watch out for more lessons only here in this blog!

I miss the theater.
I watched Morny's play last night at the Rizal Mini Theater in the Ateneo. This time he acts as the father of the two main characters in a production by a rival organization back in college - Entablado. His craft has matured a lot from the last time I saw him act. It was Chairs, an English play directed by Yanni. This time there is depth in his characterization that wasn't there when he played Lebret in Cyrano years ago.
He gave me a backstage tour of the old theater: that distinct RMT smell is still there, the backstage pinlights are all dead, and the cyclorama surprisingly has no marks on it. They have a new lights and audio control system installed, but there are fewer par lamps in the house. Morny told me that there are no house par lamps anymore. Each organization has to bring its own set of lamps now. That explains why I don't see my Fresnels.
Catch Exodo at the Rizal Mini Theater, Ateneo de Manila University, on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until the 22nd of February 2003

I can't believe it's Saturday already. Usually the wait would seem to take forever before the great weekend, but when I woke up this morning I just realized that I don't have to go to work today. My guess is maybe it's because I took the day off Wednesday because of the colds. My body is so accustomed and prepared with the five-day work week that waking up on a Saturday is such a welcome treat.
I now have the new Stephen Speaks and TrueFaith CDs, thanks to Vanessa and Pia, respectively.
If it's still not in your calendar, then this one is really for you. If you're still the ultimate sawi that you are, come and join the other sawi in the office on February 14 for a night of celebration (and angsting, if you want). We'll ask for permission to use the bar. Just bring some booze, munchies, and those cheesy MP3 lovesongs that you have. Mark your calendar.

Support the Blind
Get rid of all your body aches and give to charity at the same time. Treat yourself to a full-body massage and support the Ephpheta Foundation for the Blind. If you're from the East Quezon City area (i.e., Katipunan), call 4344846. These well-trained blind masseuse only charge P350 to P400 for a full body massage. That's cheaper than going to the spa and it's all done in the convenience of your own home.
These blind people need all the help to support the training center. So please keep this number in your phone's address book and send it to your friends.

The Day Off
It's sad that I have to be stuck here in my room when I could be in the Ateneo campus enjoying the warmth of the afternoon. I imagine myself walking on the trails at the back of Eliazo Hall and the Pollock Center.
As you can see I'm not in the office today. The colds got worse so I opted to take the day off.

Cold
It's 2:12 in the morning and I'm still up. I can't seem to sleep because of my bad cold. I tried to temporarily make it bearable with Drixine, but it seems it has irritated my nasal passages. Now with nothing else to do but wait for drowsiness to kick in, I might as well blog away.
Life is hard for a proxy. You're there because the other is not. You try as much as possible to be what the main guy is and maybe more but it still doesn't count because you're still not him. That's it. Period. End of story. The sad part is when it's all over and main guy is back in action and ready to play, you'll be placed on the sidelines, until, of course, you're needed again.
I think that's why I called myself Dakila in the first place. Translated to English, it's called loser. Wonderful. This must be the side-effect from doing a Smallville marathon -- episodes one to fifteen in just three days.
We biked Maarat for the first time Sunday. The ride was awesome with long climbs and good trails. If I've known that we we're going offroad, I would've used the knobby instead of the slicks. Then I would've certainly kicked the asses of those punk freeriders and showed them how real bikers ride downhills.
Time is now 2:30 and I'm still not sleepy.
